If you remember your first time putting on a pair of roller skates, you know how intimidating it can be to shuffle onto the rink for the first time. Luckily, we’ve got some tips for helping your children learn how to roller skate for the first time.
1. A little encouragement goes a long way
The number one thing you can do for your kid when they first step onto the rink
2. Get out there with them
If you’re comfortable, put on skates and go out on the floor with them. Seeing a parent or guardian in skates will help your little one to know that it’s safe and fun. If you aren’t the best skater, just walk out on the rink with them wearing tennis shoes. You can help them keep their balance and get up if they fall

Make sure your kid has on knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet when learning how to skate. There are likely to be a few falls, and
