It’s Summer Break, Now What?

May 17, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

Whether you are a child or a parent, we are all counting down the days until summer break. Our children are counting down the days until no homework, no teachers, freedom, and fun. While us parents are counting down the days until we have our children all day and must find full time entertainment. Well Skate Moore is is here to help!

We have planned a special late night skate for May 24th to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer fun! It will be from 7p.m.until 1 a.m. with games, snacks and plenty of fun. Check out our special event page and make sure to stay up-to-date with all of our exciting events!

We have also rolled out a roller skate summer camp with Thursday sessions in June, July and August. Summer camp sessions are from noon until 3 p.m. We also have child care group options available. So grab your friends and gather a group of at least ten children, call us and reserve a spot today!

If you are ahead of the game and your kids already have a summer full of fun booked, consider Skate Moore as your rainy day superhero.

Here are some ways to make something fun out of a rainy summer day:

  • Have your kids wear their favorite swim trunks or coverup and spice it up with some leis and funny arm floaties for a summer themed roller skate party
  • Pick out your family’s favorite movie and dress up like the characters. Host a movie-themed skate party and end the day watching that movie with some pizza and popcorn.
  • Sign your little ones up for our Thursday child care and have a rainy movie date with your friends or go out to lunch childless.
  • Spend some one-on-one time with each child with some roller skating, dinner, and ice cream.

Roller skating is an activity for any season, weather, time of day, or time of year. Please remember your friends at Skate Moore whether you need something to do with your children this summer or you need a little time to yourself.

All you Need to Know about Today’s Roller Rinks

April 26, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

Light Up Roller Skates

When you hear the term roller rink, you immediately think of a place where people go to roller skate. However, there is a lot more to a roller rink than most people know.

  • Did you know that skating is a great form of aerobic exercise? Roller skating uses over 640 of the body’s muscles and can burn over 600 calories in an hour.
  • Did you know we have a snack bar? If you did, I bet you didn’t know we make our own pizza. Besides our fresh pizza, our snack bar has a wide selection of candies, snacks, and beverages.
  • Did you know we have a pro shop? Now this is not as popular in roller skating rinks, but we are able to have a fully-functional pro shop with tons of skate options and accessories.
  • Did you know that roller skating is a hobby that will not break the bank? Our pricing and time slots are so affordable that you can pay less than $20.00 per child including snacks. Our three-hour open skate is more than enough fun for any kid.
  • Did you know many roller rinks have an outreach night or event option? We love being a part of our community and giving back to the community that has given us so much. One of our ways to give back, is by our PTA Skate Program. Every Thursday night, we highlight a different local school. We charge $4.00 admission with the school flyer along with donating $1.00 of each admission back to the featured school. You can check here for the school schedule.

You’re Killing It at Work

When your family is doing good, so are you. Is the dog fed? Are the kids excelling at soccer practice or piano lessons? Did you prepare an amazing dinner that the whole family loved? Great job! Treat you and your family to a fun night at Skate Moore!

Good Grades

If you recently turned in a twenty-page research paper, finally jumped the gun on going back to college, or even if your kids are making the honor roll at school, you deserve a night out. Give your brain a break and go see that new blockbuster film that just came out! You won’t regret it!

You’re in Good Health

If you’ve somehow managed to avoid getting you and your family sick during cold and flu season, congratulations. You may have had to force feed everyone vitamins for four months straight, but you came out victorious. You definitely deserve a night out or maybe even a night to yourself!

Tips for Helping Your Children Learn How To Skate

March 20, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

girl in skating gear

If you remember your first time putting on a pair of roller skates, you know how intimidating it can be to shuffle onto the rink for the first time. Luckily, we’ve got some tips for helping your children learn how to roller skate for the first time.

1. A little encouragement goes a long way

The number one thing you can do for your kid when they first step onto the rink is give them a little push (not literally). Encouraging your child to try new things will help them be more willing to do it. Let them know they are perfectly capable and show them how much fun skating is once you get the hang of it.

2. Get out there with them

If you’re comfortable, put on skates and go out on the floor with them. Seeing a parent or guardian in skates will help your little one to know that it’s safe and fun. If you aren’t the best skater, just walk out on the rink with them wearing tennis shoes. You can help them keep their balance and get up if they fall.

3. Gear-up

Make sure your kid has on knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet when learning how to skate. There are likely to be a few falls, and the fewer injuries, the better.

4. Ask a staff member for help

The Skate Moore team is here to help kids feel comfortable and stay safe while learning to skate. We know learning to skate can be tricky, but we also know how much fun it is! If your child needs a little extra guidance, our team members are always on hand to give them a nudge in the right direction.

  • Pick a theme. In an earlier blog post, we picked our favorite birthday party themes. You could include any of these themes in your family outing. Get accessories or costumes to take the fun to the next level.
  • Talk with a funny accent. Make a rule where your family has to all speak in a certain accent the entire time you are on the rink.
  • Take your family for their favorite wheel shaped treat afterwards. Burgers, PB cups, donuts, and pizza all apply.
  • Have a roller skating themed fort night in the living room, basement, or play room. Take the kids out for a night of roller skating, and then finishing up the night with a roller skating movie. Check out a list of the best roller skating moments through cinema history. We would not be mad if you chose Brink.

The more the merrier! Call to get info on group skating sessions, parties, and special skating events for holidays and school breaks.

A New Spin on the Average Party

February 19, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

Want to get your friends together for some kid-free fun that is not your average get together? Let Skate Moore take care of that and host your next event with us.

We have several different party options based on who you want to bring along with you (school, youth group, or just good old adult fun). Our exclusive event package includes pizza and soda. Feel free to bring your favorite desserts but don’t forget your paper goods.

Want to put a fun, unique spin to your roller skating party? We have compiled (with some Pinterest inspiration) a list of our favorite themes that can turn any party into one that is remembered forever.

Our Favorite Party Themes:

  • Unicorn & rainbows
  • Disco
  • Rave
  • Decades
  • Celebrity couples
  • Out of this world
  • Sports & dorks
  • Throwdown for your hometown
  • Masquerade
  • Party for the hippies
  • Back to school
  • Still stumped? Click here for help picking a theme.

Once you pick a theme, here are some creative ways to incorporate the theme into your party planning:

  • Dessert. You can bring your own dessert into Skate Moore, so find something fun to bring like disco ball or unicorn cake pops or cupcakes with alien slime green icing and galaxy dust on top.
  • Decorations. When picking out paper goods and decor to bring to Skate Moore, pick a color scheme to stick to that goes along with your theme.
  • Costumes. Giving a party a theme does not mean that you and your guests have to come completely in costume (even though it would be a blast). You can provide masquerade masks, disco afros or unicorn headbands for your guests upon arrival. This will make for a lot of fun and awesome pictures.
  • Invitations. Either paper or digital, your invitations are an easy way to incorporate your theme.

We hope that these tips and tricks help inspire you to put a unique spin on that next fundraiser, event, or parent’s night out. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you have about your next event at Skate Moore!

Best Roller Skating Moments in Cinema History

February 7, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

People who grew up in the 80’s will be able to tell you about roller skating with great nostalgia. From getting a coke and fries at the snack stand to meeting up with their first crush and getting to skate the night away hand-in-hand. They will tell you about waitresses on skates, roller music, roller magazines and of course, the roller derby. We all remember our first time on roller skates and racing our siblings down the biggest hill in the neighborhood. Some of us even have scars to prove it.

We all remember scenes in classic movies with the waitresses on skates serving malts in poodle skirts. We also remember Ellen Paige competing in some hardcore roller derby. Those 90’s babies remember watching Rocket Power, where they rode anything with wheels. Whatever shows and movies we grew up on, roller skating was and will continue to be part of our culture.

No matter your age, roller skating has been a large part of social culture throughout the years. And we all have our favorite television and cinema moments surrounding roller skating.

Top Ten Moments in Roller Skating Cinema according to ifc.com:

  1. Boogie Nights (1997)
  2. Xanadu (1980)
  3. Whip It! (2009)
  4. Cant’ Stop The Music (1980)
  5. Mad Men (2014)
  6. Austin Powers Goldmember (2002)
  7. That 70’s Show (2004)
  8. Rollerball (1975)
  9. Van Wilder (2002)
  10. Skatetown U.S.A. (1979)

So whether you grew up roller skating or your favorite movie in Boogie Nights, roller skating can always bring out a type of nostalgia. What better place to host your high school reunion or a girl’s night out with sorority sisters? Check out our private party options as well as our upcoming events for all of the old school fun.

Plan the Perfect Valentine’s Day Date

January 24, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

Couple making a heart shape with their handsValentines Day will be here before we know it! It’s time to make plans to spend quality time with your someone special, and skating is the perfect way to do it! Whether you two are on your first date or a fiftieth, a trip to Skate Moore is the way to go!

Here are some benefits of combining skating and dating:

    • Skating is Fun and Interactive – Everyone loves a nostalgic activity and nothing will make you feel like a kid again the way roller skating does!
    • It’s Not the Same Old Date – Skating is much more memorable than dinner and a movie, and it’s the perfect way to change up your routine. Dinner and a movie is tired, instead choose skating to keep things interesting and show your special someone that you’re creative.
    • Active Engagement is Best – Let’s be honest, most of us could stand to be more active. That reason alone is enough to avoid sedentary dates and instead do something that will get your heart racing. Roller skating is great for toning your lower body, building core strength, improving balance. You can even get a good cardio workout, all while having fun with your Valentine. Plus, active engagement builds stronger connections than idle, passive activities like watching a movie.

And why should Valentine’s Day get all the love? Whether you’re looking for a unique Valentine’s Day date or just planning a random date night, roller skating in Moore is the perfect solution. So check out our hours and make your date plans today!

New Skates, New You!

January 11, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

Bringing in the new year represents a fresh start, but why can’t it mean fresh skates too?

Our pro shop has everything you need to skate through 2019. The pro shop has ten different styles of skates and has varying options based on your skating ability. We can help you through the process of deciding what skates are needed based on your level and style of skating. From there, we have everything to make your skates completely customizable, from wheels to laces. We even have attachable pom poms. Don’t forget to check out the protective gear we have on our pro shop site.

If you already have a pair of skates and just need a little update, new wheels are the perfect overhaul. Before buying new wheels for roller skates there are a few things to consider. We have the top ten tips on buying roller skate wheels.

Top Ten Tips For Buying Roller Skate Wheels:

  1. Determine your ideal wheel hardness by analyzing the surface you plan to skate on (softer surfaces = harder wheels and vice versa).
  2. A wheel’s diameter will affect acceleration, speed, stability, and weight while you skate.
  3. Wheels weigh a lot! In fact, they’re a large percentage of the skate’s overall weight.
  4. Watch your constant patch. That’s the overall amount of the wheel’s surface area touching the ground. A wider constant patch means more stability, but slower skating.
  5. The smoothness of your glide depends on the wheel’s hub and core materials.
  6. Tread is not as important as you think it is.
  7. Acceleration and roll time changes based on the skater’s weight.
  8. Count your pennies and pick something in your budget.
  9. Show off your signature style with fun colors or glitter.
  10. Choose your wheels, boots, and bearings based on the type of skating you do most often.

We hope with these helpful tips and tricks, 2019 will be a skate through the park. If you do have any other questions about skates or materials, don’t hesitate to contact us.
